During his time as a student in Mainz, artist Hiwa K invited friends to join him in cooking meals while his mother in Iraq provided instructions via video call. In our Remote Hugs workshop, we also invite our faraway friends and relatives to cook with us. These could simply be friends who have moved to another city—or perhaps our parents in another country? Whatever the case, in these two hours, geographical distance gives way to shared banter, cooking, and eating.  

But what dishes should we choose? What meaning do they have for the guests who are joining us? Are the any stories connected with these foods? We take a culinary journey that also feeds our spiritual hunger.
