Pia Hierzegger
Situation Report

Each week of the festival program is accompanied by uniquely performative video reports from the streets and environs of Graz. They are not “coverage” in the traditional sense, but rather artistic and intellectual projects, complementing the festival’s other situations.

During the third week of the festival, moderator and actress Pia Hierzegger pays a visit to Graz’s local elections, scheduled early this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and examines the political situation. The Social Democrats are very weak in this city whose electorate rather votes conservative or (perhaps surprisingly) Communist. Since 2017, a conservative coalition has been in power, and this shows little signs of changing. Hierzegger illuminates Graz’s political mechanism, looking at the ongoing campaigns, talking to election officials, and doing exit polls of her own.
