Spiel des Lebens – Murau 2021
Cross-over visual art / action art

The Spiel des Lebens (Game of Life) connects seven playing fields created by seven local and international artists: Bronwyn Lace, Susanne Schweiger, Vivian Simbürger, Karin Reinprecht, Marcus Neustetter, Reinhard Simbürger, and Armin Seidl. The playing fields, for which the artists have developed individual themes, are scattered across public spaces in the city of Murau.

These artistic interventions as games are performed and come to life together with and through the audience. Each playing field is also as an ongoing installation and several remain open to view by visitors for the duration of the steirischer herbst, whenever the performances are not in process. These installations will typically give viewers an opportunity to contribute in the form of layered texts, images, or recordings left behind.

The Spiel des Lebens is an investigation into collaborative and participatory processes for artists and audiences alike. Of particular significance is the question: What does public and performative art means to us in these times of separation, isolation, and communal crisis?
